Mixing Buddy Rhodes Pure Collection™ Pigments with Matrix Dryve™

Mixing Buddy Rhodes Pure Collection™ Pigments with Matrix Dryve™

Buddy Rhodes Pure Collection™ Powdered Pigments are proven for adding uniform and consistent color to polymer modified gypsum products such as Matrix™ Dryve™.  Visit buddyrhodes.com for more information on Pure Collection™ pigments.

A variety of the pure pigments have been tested for effectiveness at different loading levels with Dryve™ and the results are presented below. We preface these results by saying that particle size and density will vary by pigment causing potential variability in the results you get. Other variables such as quality and surface texture of your rubber mold (i.e. urethane vs. silicone, type of release agent, etc.) will affect your outcome. Small scale testing for your specific application is recommended before using on an larger scale.

What you will Need: measuring containers and a large mixing container. A mechanical mixer (turbine mixer) attached to a variable speed drill is required to blend all ingredients.

Dispensing and Mixing; The procedure for adding powdered pigment is somewhat complicated but you can be successful if you follow directions. Read the technical bulletin for Dryve™ before using. Dryve™ is a powder which is combined with water. We recommend using a 100 parts powder to 35 parts water mix ratio for Dryve™ when adding powdered pigments. An accurate gram scale is required.

Calculating the amount of powdered pigment is measured as a percentage of Dryve™. The pigment is then added and pre-mixed with water for easier dispersion. The pigment and water pre-mix is then combined with the measured amount of Part A powder.

Loading Rates - Recommended loading rates range between 1% and 5% of the Dryve™ powder by weight for most powdered pigments. IMPORTANT - The cure time for castings with pigment is extended, depending on the amount added.

Combining Pure Collection™ Pigments With Dryve™

  1. Determine the amount of Dryve™ required for your project (refer to our online material calculator)
  2. Using a gram scale, weigh out the appropriate amount of Part A of Dryve™ into a container and set aside.
  3. Measure appropriate amount of powdered pigment (as a percentage of Part A) in a separate container.
  4. Measure appropriate amount of water in a separate container.
  5. With the turbine mixer immersed in mixing container, gently sift powdered pigment into water. and mix until completely blended, and lumps disappear (30 - 60 seconds).
  6. Gently sift Dryve™ powder into to pigmented water and drill mix until dry powder is thoroughly dispersed and lumps disappear. (Min. 60 to 120 seconds depending on quantity). Mixture should have a creamy consistency.
